Central's Colbert, Frost Lake's Ponce Receive SPFE Awards
Central High School English teacher Kimberly Colbert and Frost Lake ML Bilingual Educational Assistant Jonathan Ponce have been honored by the Saint Paul Federation of Educators (SPFE).
Colbert earned the Mary McGough Award, which is the highest honor given by SPFE in recognition of outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Saint Paul Public Schools. Colbert is a fearless teacher with endless creativity and energy. She has been devoted to this profession for well over 30 years in many different roles. Whether it English, theater and Critical Ethnic Studies, Colbert has always looked for new ways to engage her students as critical thinkers and has potential activists who can make real world connections.
Ponce has been named the SPFE Educational Support Professional (ESP) of the Year.
Ponce has been an invaluable member of the SPFE/SPPS community since 2018. His unwavering commitment to supporting our students and schools has not gone unnoticed—he received nominations from four esteemed colleagues who recognize his passion and dedication.
As a proud and active member of the SPFE, Jonathan doesn't just work within the system; he actively shapes it! Serving as an Executive Board member, he represents ESP's at the table, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.
